Annular Frictional Pressure Losses for Drilling Fluids

چکیده
Abstract In the paper, it is demonstrated how a Herschel–Bulkley fluid model, where parameters are selected from relevant shear rate range of flow and parametrically independent, can be used for pressure loss calculations. The model found to provide adequate predictions axial in an annulus inner cylinder does not rotate. It described one simplify slot approximation using (Founargiotakis model). This simplified gives approximately same accuracy as full Founargiotakis model. shown that use such parallel plate reasonably good fit measured data on laminar oil-based drilling fluids if viscous at rates flow. Laboratory measurements indicate also valid turbulent However, should adjusted surface roughness well.

EXPERIMENT AND APPLICATION OF AN ANNULAR FOAM BREAKER FOR FOAM DRILLING FLUID (RESEARCH NOTE)
The annular foam breaker is one which uses the vacuum and shear force generated by the Coanda effect to break foam. Its effectiveness in destroying drilling foam has been test in wellbore flow simulation loop experimental stand. Experimental results showed that the operating pressure of the annular foam breaker should be larger than 0.6MPa and the stabilizers concentration of the foam drilling ...
متن کاملImproving Thermal Stability of Starch in Formate Fluids for Drilling High Temperature Shales
Starch is one of the most widely used biopolymers in water based drilling fluids to control fluid loss. The thermal stability of starch in common drilling fluids is low (93 °C). In this study, the thermal stability of starch has been evaluated in sodium/potassium formate and potassium chloride fluids. Samples of mud were prepared by formate salts (sodium and potassium) and potassium chloride wi...
متن کاملManaged Pressure Drilling Using Integrated Process Control
Control of wellbore pressure during drilling operations has always been important in the oil industry as this can prevent the possibility of well blowout. The present research employs a combination of automatic process control and statistical process control for the first time for the identification, monitoring, and control of both random and special causes in drilling operations. To this end, ...
متن کاملThe use and management of drilling fluids and cuttings
There are essentially three main categories of drilling fluids: oil based fluids (OBF’s), synthetic based fluids (SBF’s) and water based fluids (WBF’s). OBF’s have been traditionally been used for their high performance drilling characteristics but tend to have a poor environmental performance in terms of their ecotoxicity and their tendency to persist in cuttings piles on the seafloor. More re...
